my times are a changing
Every bike racer has that point when they have to think realistically and maybe even stop being a bike racer (to some extent). I have been floating in between the status of being a bike racer and being a responsible adult. Last year went smooth in my in between status. I was able part time the engineer thing about 20 hours a week, without too much interference with training. My training log was always filled out, I did about 10 hours a week for most of the early winter, I did a big training trip out in California for a week, and in the late winter I was hitting 15-20 hours a week. And the consistency paid off in my somewhat insignificant world of Category 2 bike racing.
And I was looking forward to doing it all again.
But the high hopes I had for getting on a bigger team are dwindling. I wanted to do more - USA Crits, NRC, etc and really put my effort into helping people who are better than me. But that is not looking as likely.
And I just got roped into managing a big project down at the beach. This little pool reinforcing job has turned into around $3 million in construction every year from 2009 up through 2012/2013. I will probably be down at the beach 2-3 days a week all the way until April. Too bad its going to be 20 degrees out most of the time.
And I am not sure if I will be living here or in Baltimore in a years time. At this point I am not sure if I will be a real adult or a psuedo-bike racer. One thing I do know for sure is that I would rather just know. You know what I mean?

For what it's worth, being an adult turned out to be more fun than I was expecting.
