Love Hate
There is a lot of haters on the internets. Your computer screen provides you a wall and can be empowering. You dont have to look anyone in the eye and see the reaction to what you have to say. Maybe its in more communities than just cycling, but the internet can sometimes get in the way of what cycling has always been for me - a way to meet people that have the same passion.
Its amazing what a little actual human interaction can provide. Don't stay jaded - get out and ride with some new friends.
Emmaus has been doing it right. From simple group rides from South Mountain Cycles to Fifth Street Cross, the cyclists in Emmaus have been creating a nice community of riders. Last Saturday we did the Monkey Knife Fight leaving from SMC. This is a ride organized by Mark Bowman, raising about $1000 for Perimeter Ride Against Cancer. Sprinting to the top of 13 gravel climbs really hurts. Gabe and I worked hard against the Bobby Lea onslaught, and thanks to a timely lack of pressure in Bobby's tires, we got the win. Gabe gave some of the money back to charity, but saved enough to buy me pizza. Sweeeeet.
